ABOUT

beyond the boardroom

Leadership extends beyond the organisations we serve. It is reflected in the institutions we help build, the people we develop and the communities we choose to invest in.

Throughout his career, James Babb has believed that professional success carries a responsibility to mentor others, strengthen institutions and contribute to the broader business and community environment.

BUILDING LEADERS

“The organisations we remember most are those that leave people stronger than they found them. I believe the same should be true of leadership.”

Developing leaders has been a consistent theme throughout James’ career.

As Deloitte Middle East’s CFO Program Leader, he designed and facilitated executive transition programmes for newly appointed Chief Financial Officers, helping senior executives prepare for one of the most demanding leadership roles within an organisation.

Beyond formal programmes, James has mentored executives, entrepreneurs and emerging board directors, believing that leadership is strengthened through experience, curiosity and a willingness to invest in others.

STRENGTHENING INSTITUTIONS

James has always been drawn to organisations that bring people together around a shared purpose.

His leadership has extended beyond corporate boardrooms into professional associations, governance organisations and member communities where collaboration, learning and long-term thinking are encouraged.

These experiences have reinforced his belief that strong institutions are built through trust, good governance and a commitment to serving something larger than individual success.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

James acts on his belief that strong communities are built on active, dedicated leadership, and that professional success is deeply intertwined with civic responsibility.

Guided by this philosophy, he has consistently stepped forward to serve in leadership roles with professional, educational, and community organisations, including the Yale Club of Nevada and the Capital Club Dubai.

By focusing on fostering meaningful connections, mentoring emerging professionals, and strengthening organisational foundations, James helps cultivate environments where professionals can contribute to a community's broader economic and social vitality.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SPORTS

James believes that participation in sport helps young people develop confidence, discipline, teamwork and leadership.

He co-founded the Emirates American Football League, helping to establish one of the Middle East's longest-running youth American football programmes. Over approximately 16 years, the league has provided opportunities for hundreds of young athletes, with a dozen progressing to play college football in the United States. The programme has also earned multiple Middle East Sports Industry Awards for excellence in youth sports development, including Gold, Silver and Bronze recognition. Its enduring success reflects James' commitment to developing young people, building lasting institutions and creating opportunities beyond the boardroom.

James has also supported Special Olympics initiatives in both the United Arab Emirates and Nevada, reflecting his belief that leadership includes creating opportunities for others to thrive.

LIFELONG LEARNING

The most effective directors never stop learning.

Throughout his career, James has continued to invest in his own development through executive education, governance qualifications and engagement with global business, economic and governance issues.

He believes that intellectual curiosity is one of the most valuable attributes a board member can bring to an organisation facing continual change.

PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE

Having spent more than three decades living and working in the Middle East while maintaining strong ties to the United States, James brings a perspective shaped by different cultures, markets and leadership traditions.

He values integrity, humility and thoughtful dialogue, believing that the strongest relationships are built through trust, respect and genuine curiosity about others.

Whether advising boards, mentoring executives or contributing to community organisations, his approach remains consistent: listen carefully, think independently and seek outcomes that strengthen both organisations and the people they serve.

OUTSIDE
THE
OFFICE

Outside his professional commitments, James enjoys spending time with family, maintaining an active lifestyle, following global business and geopolitical developments, and continuing his study of governance and leadership.

He believes the best leaders remain students throughout their careers.
